Margaret L. Callihan
Margaret Callihan is Chief Human Resources Officer for SunTrust Banks, Inc. In this role, she oversees human resources strategy, talent management, employee benefits, compensation, staffing, human resources systems, operations and payroll, compliance, employee relations, human resources policies, as well as training and development.
Prior to being named to her current role in August 2016, Callihan served as chairman, president and CEO of SunTrust, South Florida. Prior to that, she was chairman, president and CEO of SunTrust, Southwest Florida and SunTrust in Chattanooga. A 38-year SunTrust veteran, she began her career with the company in the management training program in 1978, and subsequently held a number of positions including group retail line of business manager for the SunTrust Banks in Tennessee and Alabama.
Callihan earned a bachelor’s degree and an MBA from Vanderbilt University. She has instructed courses at the Graduate School of Banking of the South at LSU; the Tennessee Bankers Consumer Credit School; the Southeastern Consumer Credit School and Schools of Banking in Kansas, Nebraska and North Dakota. Callihan is a graduate of Leadership Nashville, Leadership Music, the L2 program of Leadership Sarasota and Leadership Florida. She also completed the SEO (Senior Executive Orientation) programs in Miami and Ft. Lauderdale.
Active in the community, Callihan served on the board of directors and was audit committee chair of the South Florida Public Broadcasting System. She also was on the boards of the Broward Performing Arts Foundation, where she served on the stewardship committee; the Museum of Discovery and Science (MODS); the United Way of Broward County, and the Broward Workshop.
