Hugh S. (Beau) Cummins, III

Hugh S. (“Beau”) Cummins, III is the co-chief operating officer of SunTrust Banks, Inc. In this role, he leads the Wholesale Segment of SunTrust and has oversight of the Enterprise Efficiency Office. Wholesale is comprised of the following lines of business: Corporate & Investment Banking, Commercial & Business Banking and Commercial Real Estate, along with Treasury & Payment Solutions.  

Prior to being named to his current position, Cummins served as executive vice president and commercial and business banking executive from 2013, with responsibilities for strategy and sales delivery of the full complement of SunTrust’s banking products and services to clients.  He served as chairman, president & chief executive officer of SunTrust Robinson Humphrey (STRH), the corporate and investment banking division of SunTrust, from 2008-2013 delivering strategic advice, capital raising and risk management solutions to thousands of corporate clients in a variety of industries and across a national corporate banking franchise.

Before joining SunTrust in 2005 as head of debt capital markets, Cummins held numerous leadership positions with Bank of America including global head of investment grade origination, global head of foreign exchange, and co-head of global interest rate and commodity derivative sales. He began his investment banking career at Citibank in its global derivative products business.

Cummins serves on the board of directors of SunTrust Robinson Humphrey, the Owen board of visitors at Vanderbilt University, and is the chairman of the World Affairs Council of Atlanta.  He is a past chairman of the board of trustees of the Fine Arts League of the Carolinas, and formerly on the board of trustees for YoungArts in Miami, FL.  Cummins also served as a board member of ABA Securities Association, and is a past member of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York’s Foreign Exchange Committee. He is also a two-term, past member of the Business Advisory Council at Miami University’s Farmer School of Business.

Cummins earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and a master's degree in business administration from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
