SunTrust Names Paul Burdiss New Corporate Treasurer

ATLANTA, Aug. 1, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- SunTrust Banks, Inc. (NYSE: STI) has named Paul Burdiss its new Corporate Treasurer.

Mr. Burdiss will report to SunTrust Chief Financial Officer Aleem Gillani -- whom he succeeds as Treasurer -- and be based in Atlanta.  Mr. Gillani served as Corporate Treasurer prior to his appointment as CFO earlier this year and temporarily retained the post while a search for a new Treasurer was conducted.

As Corporate Treasurer, Mr. Burdiss will be responsible for managing SunTrust's interest rate risk profile as well as overseeing the liquidity, capital management and investment portfolio functions.  Most recently he was Executive Vice President and Treasurer of Comerica Incorporated and Comerica Bank, serving in a similar capacity.  In addition to holding a variety of other leadership roles with Comerica, Mr. Burdiss previously worked in commercial lending with Bank of Nova Scotia.

He earned a bachelor's degree in finance from Michigan State University and his MBA from the University of Michigan.
