SunTrust Names Craig D. Smith Corporate Communications Executive, Barry Koling to Retire

SunTrust Banks, Inc. announced today that Craig D. Smith has joined the Company as Executive Vice President and Corporate Communications Executive for SunTrust Banks, Inc. He will lead the Company's external and internal communications activities, reporting to SunTrust President William H. Rogers, Jr.

Barry Koling, who served as head of Corporate Communications at SunTrust and a predecessor institution, will retire from the company in September after more than 20 years of service.

Mr. Smith recently announced the formation of an expanded and centralized Corporate Communications function to provide companywide and individual line of business communications, communications services and external communications support.

With more than 20 years of communications leadership experience, Mr. Smith most recently served as a Senior Vice President and Corporate Communications Executive at Bank of America. He previously was Corporate Communications Director for Colgate-Palmolive and held senior leadership posts with Inter-Continental Hotels and its predecessor companies. Mr. Smith began his communications career with McDonnell Douglas Corporation.
