SunTrust Investment Services Announces Simplified Retirement Planning Program, Retirement GamePlan™

Investment Consultants Simplify Process through Customized Planning, Long-term Guidance

Jun 5, 2008

SunTrust Investment Services, a subsidiary of SunTrust Banks, Inc. , today announced a new, coordinated multi-channel approach to retirement planning called Retirement GamePlan™ which provides clients with the tools to quickly and simply plan for retirement. Retirement GamePlan™ offers SunTrust clients access to a dedicated call enter staffed with experts to answer questions, a new Web site with updated calculators, quizzes and articles, as well as a corps of specially trained financial advisors. Retirement GamePlan™ answers such questions as, "When can I afford to retire?" "Will my retirement money last?" and "How much money will I need?"

SunTrust developed Retirement GamePlan™ as a way for clients of all ages and income levels to more easily plan to reach their retirement goals and to benefit from the guidance and insights of investment consultants at SunTrust Investment Services. SunTrust Banks, Inc. has more than 100 years of banking and financial experience.

Retirement planning in today's economy is more relevant than ever. Most people are saving on their own with IRAs or 401(k) programs, unlike a generation ago when company pensions were more prevalent. A recent AARP study conducted in May 2008 found that one-third of middle-aged and older people have stopped putting money into their retirement accounts, and more than a quarter (27 percent) of all workers over the age of 45 have postponed plans to retire. (

When it comes to retirement planning, there is no "one size fits all" plan that can be applied to everyone. SunTrust investment consultants simplify the process by developing a customized Retirement GamePlan™ for each client that addresses their current life situations and future aspirations. Clients are engaged in a conversation about retirement planning and receive practical answers and advice from a registered representative.

"Planning for retirement can be an emotional journey, especially during a down economy. We help our clients work through the anxiety and uncertainty of retirement planning by providing practical solutions to their retirement concerns," said John Rhett, chairman of SunTrust Investment Services. "Many people delay retirement planning because they feel it is too complicated. With the Retirement GamePlan™, SunTrust makes it easier for our clients to begin or improve their plans."

The key components to the SunTrust Retirement GamePlan™ are advice and guidance, personalized plans, and the consolidation and investment of assets. SunTrust guides clients at all life stages from just beginning to plan to all the way through retirement so they are knowledgeable about exactly how much they are saving and spending in order to be well-positioned for a comfortable retirement. Beginning the process is simple and there are three ways a client can get started:

  1. Contact the dedicated SunTrust Retirement Solutions Call Center at
      (866) 589-8220 to have a free conversation with a retirement
  2. Have any SunTrust branch make the introduction to a licensed
      investment consultant.
  3. Visit the new SunTrust Retirement GamePlan™ Web site at .

The new SunTrust Retirement GamePlan™ Web site is a resource for education and information. It hosts articles and tools about retirement planning, including: tips based on one's life stage, questions one should ask as they prepare for retirement, and more.

Rhett added, "At SunTrust, we believe that planning for retirement is a journey. It is a lifetime of preparation that can earn a second lifetime of freedom."
