SunTrust Names Barry L. Henderson Western Virginia Regional President and CEO

SunTrust Banks, Inc. has announced that veteran SunTrust banker Barry L. Henderson has been named President and Chief Executive Officer of its Western Virginia Region based in Roanoke. He succeeds Bob Lawson who retired from the position after a 28-year career with the Company.

The Western Virginia Region is comprised of 82 offices in the 26 counties surrounding Roanoke, Blacksburg, Radford, Martinsville, Lexington, Staunton, Harrisonburg, Winchester, Charlottesville, and Lynchburg, Virginia as well as Charleston, West Virginia.

With more than 23 years of banking experience with SunTrust and its predecessor institutions, Mr. Henderson most recently served as Executive Vice President and head of the Western Virginia Region's Commercial line of business. He was named to that position in November, 2000.

A graduate of Virginia Tech, Mr. Henderson is active in community service and has held numerous leadership positions in Roanoke and Harrisonburg. He currently serves as Board Vice Chair of the United Way of Roanoke Valley, and is a board member of Virginia Western Community College's Foundation board.
