SunTrust Plays Key Role in Disability Support Program

SunTrust Banks, Inc. will commemorate the National Disability Mentoring Day, which is being held tomorrow, Wednesday, October 16, 2002, by holding mentoring and recruiting sessions for students and job seekers with disabilities in seven cities. SunTrust is one of 14 national sponsors of National Disability Mentoring Day, a project of The American Association of People with Disabilities.

Participants will learn first-hand about career opportunities at SunTrust in Baltimore, Richmond, Knoxville, Nashville, Atlanta, Orlando and Miami where the company will host a variety of activities including one-on-one job shadowing, meetings with SunTrust employees, and presentations about SunTrust and its various operations.

"SunTrust is committed to providing job opportunities, accessible products, and exceptional service to people with disabilities," said Mary Steele, SunTrust director of Human Resources. "Participating in the National Disability Mentoring Day allows us to introduce SunTrust as an employer of choice to this important constituency."

Steele said that SunTrust currently employs almost 200 employees with disabilities and has found that disabled individuals are excellent employees who exhibit a strong sense of loyalty and commitment to the company. She noted that SunTrust has been designated a Disability Friendly Business by The Business Leadership Network, a national organization of employers committed to the best disability employment practices. Earlier this year, the Association for Persons in Supported Employment named SunTrust as the ASPE Employer of the Year.
