SunTrust Names Donald P. Hutchinson Maryland Regional President and CEO

SunTrust Banks, Inc. announced today that Donald Hutchinson will be joining the company as its Maryland regional president and CEO effective November 1, 2002. In this capacity, Mr. Hutchinson, 56, will be based in Baltimore and responsible for SunTrust's retail, private client services and commercial banking business in Maryland, which includes approximately 800 employees and 70 branches primarily in Baltimore and surrounding counties.

Mr. Hutchinson succeeds Scott Wilfong. As previously announced, Mr. Wilfong now serves as president and CEO of SunTrust's Atlanta region.

Since 1993, Mr. Hutchinson has served as president of the Greater Baltimore Committee, the pre-eminent Baltimore business organization comprised of executives from leading businesses, nonprofits, educational and civic institutions from the greater Baltimore area. Prior to that his experience includes serving as president of the Maryland Business Council, which is now known as the Maryland Chamber of Commerce, president of Maryland Economic Growth Associates, and Baltimore County Executive for two terms.

Mr. Hutchinson's civic and community involvement includes serving on the board of directors for the Baltimore Center for the Performing Arts, and Alliance, Inc.; board of trustees for PRIDE OF BALTIMORE II and Maryland Zoological Society; and board of advisors for the Institute of Human Virology. He is also a former campaign chairman of United Way of Central Maryland, a past member of the Maryland State Board of Education and a past board member of Capital Savings Bank.
