SunTrust Named Official Bank of the Atlanta Falcons; Atlanta's 'Hometown' Bank Signs Four-Year Promotional Agreement With Team

Aug 20, 2002

SunTrust Banks, Inc. and the Atlanta Falcons announced today that the two organizations have signed a four-year sponsorship agreement designating SunTrust as the "Official Bank of the Atlanta Falcons." The agreement includes advertising, promotions, appearances and donations to Falcons' charities.

"SunTrust has provided banking services to the Atlanta Falcons for more than 20 years, and as such, it is appropriate that we become the Official Bank of the Falcons," said J. Scott Wilfong, SunTrust Bank, Atlanta's president and chief executive officer. "Now that the team is entering a new era with new ownership, and has a renewed focus and spirit, we wanted to share in the excitement."

SunTrust provides the Falcons with credit, investment, treasury management and merchant services as it does for a cross-section of Atlanta-area businesses and non-profit organizations.

While the cost of the agreement has not been disclosed, the four-year promotional sponsorship will include radio, game program and jumbo-tron advertising; support for the Atlanta Falcons' Youth Foundation; player/coach appearances; in-branch promotions; and Falcons-branded checks.

"This is a great partnership between Atlanta's hometown bank and Atlanta's hometown team," said Arthur Blank, chairman, president and CEO of the Atlanta Falcons. "The best part of this agreement is the fact that every time the Falcons make a touchdown SunTrust will give $1000 to the Atlanta Falcons' Youth Foundation -- up to $50,000 this season. That amount of money will make a tremendous difference in the lives of many young people in our community."
