SunTrust Banks, Inc. announced today the introduction of two fee-based, mutual fund asset allocation services aimed at retail investors throughout SunTrust's high-growth Mid-Atlantic and Southeast markets. The new Investor's Advantage services, which are available through SunTrust Securities' investment consultants, are designed to assist clients in the selection and management of mutual fund investments.

The new product introduction is the latest step in SunTrust's ongoing enhancement of its capabilities to meet the increasing demand for fee-based, investment-related products and services. SunTrust is offering these products through a strategic partnership with FundQuest, Incorporated, a company that develops and operates branded Web-based managed account platforms for leading financial institutions.

"These new services provide our clients with an actively managed tool to assist them in reaching their financial goals," said Peter Bielan, president of SunTrust Securities, Inc. "We've combined the benefits of professional investment management and SunTrust's commitment to superior service with an affordable, fee-based approach to investing."

The Investor's Advantage program consists of two services. For investors with a minimum initial investment of $35,000, Investor's Advantage Plus offers investment options from the STI Classic Funds mutual fund family. For investors with a minimum initial investment of $100,000, Investor's Advantage Select offers investment options from the STI Classic Funds, as well as funds from SunTrust's six strategic mutual fund partners.

Investor's Advantage provides all clients with a four-step approach to the investing process. Working with their SunTrust investment consultant, Investor's Advantage clients will:

  1. Develop an investment profile including defining investment goals,
tolerance for risk and time horizon.
  2. Select an asset allocation strategy and create a specific portfolio of
      mutual funds.
  3. Receive and review regular detailed reports. A personalized quarterly
report provides clients with an assessment of market conditions, year-
to-date and quarter-to-date investment performance. Clients may also
review their accounts whenever they choose using the Internet.
  4. Receive ongoing investment management including monitoring of the
investment strategy and automatic rebalancing of investments to insure
adherence to the asset allocation strategy.
